Packing for a winter trip to Blachford Lake Lodge
You won't need a full wardrobe for Blachford Lake Lodge. Dress at Blachford Lake Lodge is casual. There is also a 40 lb (18 kg) weight limit for the flight to the Lodge.
In winter, plan on dressing in layers in case the weather turns very cold. Temperatures from January through March can drop to -40 degrees, although the average is around -25 C. Temperatures in March and April can climb to 0 Celsius or 32 Fahrenheit.
We recommend a down parka, insulated snow pants, felt-duffle-lined boots, lined mitts,* toque, scarf, face protection, sweater or fleece jacket. You'll need a bathing suit for the hot tub, and sunglasses to protect your eyes from reflections off the snow. Bring slippers for inside the lodge, long underwear, and a change of clothes. Bring a flashlight, a camera and tripod to capture the northern lights. Shampoo, conditioner and soap are provided in our showers along with towels and bathrobes.
If you forget something, we have a small stock of items such as toothpaste, deodorant, and feminine hygiene products.
Please call in advance if your baggage will exceed our aircraft weight limit, so we can make arrangements to handle your needs, and prevent disappointment.
* Note: We also rent winter gear.
