The Aurora in Summer
Professional Aurora watchers and stargazers agree, there are few better places to see the Aurora than Blachford Lake Lodge!
Starting as early as the end of August, the auroral displays can stretch from north to south across the night sky.
On calm nights, Blachford Lake reflects the light show, offering a breathtaking double image.
To view the amazing Aurora in autumn, a minimum stay of five days is recommended. Blachford Lake is located directly under the Auroral oval, a variable band of Aurora activity that crosses Northern Canada, Greenland and Iceland. Here, just 100 km from Yellowknife, the viewing is often spectacular. We provide daily forecasts of the intensity of the northern lights based on several sources, including NASA, the polar institute in Alaska, and spaceweather.com.
Blachford Lake Lodge was designed with Aurora viewing in mind. All guestrooms offer prime viewing as do the dining, lounge areas, aurora room, decks, sauna deck and hot tub. Imagine relaxing in the therapeutic hot tub while watching a dazzling display of Aurora directly overhead!
We offer presentations about the Aurora and about Aurora photography to assist our guests to make the most of the opportunity to see the northern lights in late summer and autumn. Guests seeking the quintessential northern lights experience are invited to return in winter when the lights can offer spectacular shows that often resemble daylight on the snow-covered landscape.
