Dog Mushing Packages
Each trip is based on a minimum of two guests. Your trip is scheduled when you arrive at Blachford. Departure times can be flexible depending on the weather.
Touch of Mush
1.5 hours $115 per person
This is a great introduction to dogsledding. Take a tour of the dog yard, meet our friendly Huskies and learn some history. Guests are welcome to help harness the dogs and hitch up the team. Or, take lots of photos as our staff get the dogs ready. Soon, you are out on the trail following the shoreline of our beautiful lake. There are plenty of opportunities for photos. Try driving the sled yourself under the careful direction of your guide.
Aurora Viewing by Dogsled
2.5 hours $155 per person
Dog sledding under the Aurora is unforgettable. Your trip begins with an enthusiastic welcome from the team. We'll provide an orientation and get you settled on the sled before heading out on the lake for great views of the Northern Lights. The swish of the toboggan and the padding of the dogs’ feet are the only sounds you’ll hear on this extraordinary night run. A stop at our Grace Lake camp is possible, with a campfire and hot chocolate if you like.
Half-Day & Full Day Mush
3.5 hours - $220 pp, or 7 hours - $350 per person
Our half day dog sledding program is an adventure not to be missed. Guests are paired up two per sled so there is an opportunity to be both driver and passenger. Your guide on the lead sled will take you across frozen lakes and through frosty spruce forests. We have a choice of trails. You might head to Long Lake to see the old Cadieux family cabin, or along the trail to Thor Lake to see an old mining site. Or you could travel to the frozen shores of Great Slave Lake to see the ice-ridges. All offer terrific photo opportunities. After a short break to rest the dogs and savour a hot drink, you head back to the Lodge.
On the full-day program, you stop mid-day for a warm lunch and hot drinks. The dogs will have a short break and snooze after snacks. Along the way you might catch a glimpse of the tracks of lynx, wolf, otter or even moose. Visit with your team again before rounding out the day with a hearty dinner and a dip in the hot tub.
Much-Mush Overnight Adventure
24 hours - $475per person.
This trip includes all the magical elements of a stay at Blachford! After a brief orientation, hit the trail with the dogs. Travel across frozen lakes and through scenic spruce forests to our sheltered campsite and heated prospector-style tent. There are breathtaking panoramic views of the East Arm of Great Slave Lake along the way. Before supper, enjoy a hot drink by the fire or take a short hike to the shore of Great Slave Lake to see amazing pressure ridges in the ice. Following a delicious dinner, view the Aurora Borealis (weather permitting) before bed. You will be warm and comfortable in our Arctic sleeping bags, drifting off to sleep to the last howl of your dogs. If you'd like to sleep under the stars, curl up in one of the sleds. Next morning, enjoy a hearty northern-style breakfast before heading back to the Lodge.
Remember
Dressing correctly is a big part of enjoying your time in the North woods in winter. If you don't have the gear, or if you don't want to purchase it for your trip - don't worry. For a small fee, Blachford Lake Lodge can outfit you with a cozy and comfortable parka, insulated pants, and proper boots and mitts for your stay. We do recommend you invest in quality long underwear for your trip, though!
